Scepter Quartz is not a separate mineral species; it is a distinctive crystal habit in which a second-generation quartz crystal forms directly on top of an older, earlier crystal. The younger crystal is usually wider, creating the classic “scepter” silhouette—slender staff, bulbous head. Both crystals share the same chemical formula (SiO₂), but the interruption in growth, followed by a sudden resumption under different conditions, is what gives you the dramatic overgrowth.

You can find Scepter Quartz in every color quartz offers—clear, smoky, amethyst, citrine, rose—even in rare lithium-rich varieties. Localities span the globe: the Alps of Switzerland, Brandberg in Namibia, Arkansas in the United States, and the emerald fields of Colombia.
